One thing that has interested me since my little return to blogging is the fact that Nusuni Dot Com’s Alexa rating is still way down - despite the fact traffic is returning to more normal levels. I thought it was just because there were less Alexa toolbar users visiting - but then I saw a post on Andy Beard’s blog about the same thing happening.
For a benchmark, the rating for this site peaked at around 55,000 in October, the highest traffic month this blog has ever had. Before I left the rating was just below 100,000, and now it sits at around 500,000. The traffic levels here certainly aren’t down that much.
So what is causing the overall lowering of Alexa rankings for this blog as some others? I think it has to do with a few things - less users are using Alexa (it really is a horrible way to compare site’s traffic), and they probably have changed how they rank sites.
Please subscribe, or else I will cry. Do you really want to make a programmer cry?

Official Alexa plugin is not compatible with Firefox 3. Also, notice that for less popular sites Alexa rank changes rapidly. Well, I don’t have any other ideas

Nice to see you again Bart, haven’t seen you on here in a while!
I did not realize that about firefox 3. it could have contributed a bit if the blogs get a lot of techie traffic I suppose.
And yeah - that is one of the flaws with alexa - it fluctuates like crazy especially with less popular sites. In reality the cause of the ranking problems here probably only have to do with a few missing alexa users.
thankss for your thoughts.
