Since I started nusuni.com many years ago I’ve used “nusuni” as my nickname all over the place. After all, it made sense, why not keep everything the same? It makes it easier to remember.
But now I have thought about it and I’m ready to get a new online nickname. I’ve been thinking about something along the lines of steeleman and steelejerm (hehe). Basically I want to try and merge my first and last name into a cool little nick name. I’m leaning toward steelejerm, just because it’s funny. What do you think? Have any other ideas?
Please subscribe, or else I will cry. Do you really want to make a programmer cry?

Personally, I like your given name. It reminds me a bit of the old Remington Steele television show.

So you think “jeremysteele” as my username at various forums and sites and such would do?

I think it all depends on what your goals are. If you want to brand yourself, you should use your name. If you want to brand your site, you should use the site name. If you want to do both, use both. Since I’m a freelance web designer, I brand myself using my name and a description of my services (as in my name on these comments).

Hmm… I’m definitely leaning towards personal branding. I’ve used my website names as my username and nickname for years, which made sense at the time, but now I’m starting to look toward the future a bit more.
It would seem silly to have a site name as a username if I sell the site or stop working on it all together and move on at some point (never know what tomorrow may bring).
Thanks for your thoughts, Joshua
