Don’t Forget, Blogs Can Also Be Web Sites

It seems like nowadays with terms like “social media” and “blogging” being thrown around all the time everyone is forgetting that blogs can also be regular web sites. A “blog” doesn’t just have to be a place where you toss your thoughts and ideas, it can also be a place where you can host other projects, show off your work, etc.

Nusuni Dot Com is a perfect example of that. It hosts my blog, of course, but I also post PHP scripts and use it to host a couple of my programs as well. More recently I’ve added a WordPress plugin and some webmaster tools. That is why I usually refer to this as a site instead of a blog.

I think one of the biggest mistakes you can make is to create a blog and use it as only a blog. One of these days blogging will go the way of personal home pages and will disappear. What will you do with your domain then? Sell it off, or perhaps evolve and start something new?

Well, that scenario wouldn’t affect you nearly as much if you do other things on your blog as well.

Plus, using your blog as a placeholder for other goodies can bring in extra traffic (whenever I release an updated program this site gets anywhere from 100 to 500 extra hits that day, not bad for simply submitting the info to a few download sites), get extra subscribers, increase how much you can charge for advertising, and so on.

With all of this said, there is a fine line between being able to add extra content to a site and needing to start another entire website. If you content is completely unrelated, it should probably go somewhere else.

Please subscribe, or else I will cry. Do you really want to make a programmer cry?
