Funny Worm Detected! E-mail

I just got this little charm in my inbox the other day:

Subject: Worm Detected!

Dear Customer,

Our robot has detected an abnormal activity from your IP adress
on sending e-mails. Probably it is connected with the last epidemic
of a worm which does not have official patches at the moment.

We recommend you to install this patch to remove worm files
and stop email sending, otherwise your account will be blocked.

There was a link in it that goes to some mysterious webserver and downloads a nice chunk of malware. Either the virus makers and spammers are getting really desperate, or they honestly believe people are stupid enough to click the link even though they can’t even spell “address” right…

Sad thing is some people really are that stupid

Please subscribe, or else I will cry. Do you really want to make a programmer cry?

You’d be surprised what people will fall for. When I did Comcast tech support, I took a call from a lady who had fallen for a Phishing scam and had followed a link in the email she received from “MSN” to “update” her information, including credit card. Needless to say, I advised her to call he credit card company immediately before doing anything else. People make money off this type of stuff. I also heard a few years ago about a newspaper classified that asked that people send $5 to a specific address without giving a reason why, and people did it! They live and are capable of breeding, believe it or not!

    Some People??
There are lots who fall for such stupid things.. For eg. there are some links going around Y! msgr.. These are some weird links when you click them, affect your account and spam your contacts.. I get lots of such offlines… I don’t click them though :)

Btw the email you received is really funny

I really love those Yahoo Messenger ones that say “If you send this to 10 people in 5 minutes you will get a kiss from your true love” and then it is filled with like 10 links to porn sites.

And yeah, I have to agree it is a lot of people who fall for them, depsite the numerous resources and news segments that tell them to do otherwise.

Yep, there are stupid people but expect there are also stupid people that will fall for it.

@deepak - yah that thing is pissing me. Some of my contacts always spam me with that links. anyone know how to remove that S**T?? one of the people I know fell for it, she even call me because she want to tell me that the president’s daughter has been kidnapped

Worms are serious and can turn your computer into a spamming machine. I would never ever ever run a patch I received in an email. That patch would’ve probably installed a worm or some type of trojan or something on your pc.
