This is a post for Daily Blog Tips’ “3″ project, a blog which I highly recommend subscribing to if you haven’t already.
Here are 3 huge mistakes I have made in regards to SEO:
Underestimating the power of links
One part of my SEO strategy that has never received much attention is link-building. It’s incredibly important, but for some stupid reason (call me lazy) I never got around to it. Well, at least I never got around to getting quality links, webmaster central says nusuni.com has thousands of links, but only a handful actually help at all.
I still think nusuni.com’s rankings have done fairly well despite the low number of links, however.
Not getting to know other bloggers early on
An absolutely enormous mistake I made early on (and even make nowadays) is the failure to contact other bloggers. Other bloggers can really help you out. Many times they will subscribe to your blog, give you tips, leave comments, etc, all of which can be beneficial to you, your readers, and your blog’s search rankings (links, etc). Plus it is always good to have someone you can e-mail or IM if you need help.
Not Using Titles To Their Full Potential
I have said many times before that titles are probably the most important part of a web page. Before I learned that I never really cared about them, and it really did hurt in my early days of blogging. Luckily now I’ve gotten so used to writing *fairly* good titles that I don’t even have to think about them, they just come naturally.
Please subscribe, or else I will cry. Do you really want to make a programmer cry?

It’s much better to have all mistakes fixed as soon as possible. There is a batch of really BIG commercial sites that have a TOTAL MESS in their gigabytes of content, now there must be in REAL troubles

Yeah, early detection is absolutely important, was talking to someone last night on AIM who has to go through and fix tens of thousands of lines of code for some chunk of software because their last programmer sucked, I feel bad for the guy lol.

Okay, now think about folks from Wikipedia. They won’t ever have that mess of code fixed

I feel that getting in touch with other bloggers in your area would be the most important thing to do, actually even more important then building links. This is because if you know people with common interest, links wil definitely come in.
