As far as I can tell Google doesn’t really release its official tally for the number of pages in its index, but I have a feeling it’s around 10,000,000,000 plus or minus a few billion. When most people hear 10 billion they think “wow, big number”, but it really isn’t that much:
Bill Gates is worth over 5 times as much money in dollars at around $50 billion.
There are an estimated 125 billion galaxies in the Universe (assuming you believe in a finite Universe, which I don’t)
Lets say each page is 5 kilobytes (5,120 characters). That would mean based on the 10 billion number, there are 51,200,000,000,000 bytes of raw webpage data. Assuming I did my math right, that sure is a much more impressive number than 10 billion.
Light travels around 299,792,458,000 millimeters per second or 1,079,252,848,800,000 millimeters per hour.
The Unites States has a national debt of around $8.8 trillion. That increases around $1 billion each day.
The world’s total debt is $44.61 trillion.
According to some estimates there are over 7,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 atoms in a 70 kilogram human body.
It is estimated that the visible Universe has 1.7 x 10^77 atoms (again, assuming you believe in a finite Universe).
So, does 10 billion still look like a big number?
