Apple has just released a beta version of Safari 3 for Windows XP and Vista, available on Apple.com.
Here is a screenshot of it, for those who are curious:

Here is my little review of it (probably one of the first reviews, if not the first review, of it on the web, by the way):
They say that it is beta so you can’t expect it to be perfect, but I am still really disappointed. It doesn’t play nice with the Microsoft virtual desktop manager (just like iTunes, it doesn’t disappear when you switch desktops, probably due to some non-standard coding practices), it resizes like shit, and I couldn’t minimize it by click on it in the taskbar. Also, when I did minimize it when it was full screen and when I opened it again, it was no longer full screen.
I am pretty disappointed. Overall it started up fast, but render times were at least 2 times longer than Firefox 2 on my Windows XP comp. Very very disappointing.
On a side note, Apple.com just had a facelift. They make use of some pretty nice AJAX effects now
Update: Wow, It just totally crashed. Hopefully the final version is better
Update X2: I don’t think the problem is with the rendering of text or anything, I just did some tests and mostly text sites (like this one) run fine while sites with lots of graphics render very slowly. Haven’t a clue how Apple is rendering the things so there is no telling why this happens.
Please subscribe, or else I will cry. Do you really want to make a programmer cry?

I agree.
But it’s still in beta version.

It’ll be really interesting to see how the final version is. Then again, doubt I’ll be switching over to it anytime soon… addicted to too many firefox plugins.
Thanks for your thoughts
