Have you ever been a victim of an e-mail scam? Do you have to regularly clean spyware out your computer? Have you spent good money on “affiliate marketing” only to have it throw you into a “get rich quick” pyramid scheme? You can avoid all those problems by practicing basic Internet safety techniques.
I hate to say it, but Internet safety is one of those things that will continue to be ignored more and more. Companies like Microsoft advertise their software as “safe” and “secure” - so why should someone ever have to worry about their computer being fried or their bank account emptied? Well, companies can make their software only so secure, the rest of the equation is up to you, the user. The user is the one who provides input to the system, and it is impossible to write software to control every bit of input. If you fail to practice basic safety techniques, then why shouldn’t you be scammed? By failing to do so you are essentially painting a big target on your head.
Over the next 7 days I will be posting 7 articles that cover pretty much every area of Internet safety. If you have any specific questions/concerns feel free to drop me an e-mail.
