Your comment about MySql is accurate. Should it not also contain a mention that its open source? There’s proof that you don’t have to keep a secret to make big money.

Yeah, I forgot to mention its open source. Oops.
Its a bit funny when you think about it. Proprietary software companies claim you can’t make money with open source software, yet a lot of open source software makers are doing just fine.
Red hat is a perfect example of that. Hopefully MySQL does even better
