Active Blogosphere No Longer Expanding?

A chart has been floating around for a few hours now that says the number of active blogs is no longer expanding, but the number of inactive blogs is continuing to rise. The story originally broke when a BusinessWeek reporter looked at the Technorati charts and realized blogging is pretty close to its peak.

Will blogging die off soon? I doubt it, but as I said yesterday, Blogging, like social media, is simply a long-term fad that will die off or change one of these days.

It will be interesting to see what the next Technorati charts look like…

I will say this, however, I bet there are millions of blogs that are not in Technorati. So the number of active blogs could be greatly rising but Technorati hasn’t picked up on them yet.

Please subscribe, or else I will cry. Do you really want to make a programmer cry?

A lot of folks get tired of it due to life getting in the way, or that when they write it’s not interesting enough for a following. IMO

I, on the other hand have no life and think I write interesting stuff, so I’ve been doing it for a few years now, and still love it.

Maybe it’s got to the point that everybody has one now and it’s not growing. :p

Haha same here, except I’ve only been doing real blogging since last August or so, before that this site had basically nothing on it, and I mostly used it for SEO experiments and a place to keep my scripts and such.

Well, considering that the average blog is junk and is only read by a handful of people (just like the average phd thesis) that’s not necessarily a bad thing. I’m all for more blogs, but most of them are not worth reading.

I think a lot of people just get warn out after one or two posts. It is one of those things that you have to really like to enjoy.

I’d also like to see some figures on how many inactive blogs are dead splogs, I have a feeling the number is pretty high (10-20%)
