AJAX - Asynchronous JavaScript and XML - A technique used to create dynamically-loading web applications. Allows a script to communicate with a server without reloading the current web page.
ASP - Active Server Pages - Microsoft’s server-side scripting language.
C
CMS - Content Management System - Web applications that save website data in a database. Pages loaded from a CMS are dynamic pages, and not static pages (individual files saved on the server).
CPM - Cost Per Thousand Impressions - Advertising model that allows advertisers to set a flat price for 1,000 impressions (views) of their ad.
CPC - Cost Per Click - How much advertisers pay for a click on their ad.
CSS - Cascading Style Sheets - Language used to describe how a web page should be formatted. Allows complete control over most aspects of page design.
CTR - Click Through Rate - % of visitors who click on an ad.

HTML - Hyper Text Markup Language - The language used to describe web pages.
HTTP - Hyper Text Transfer Protocol - Networking protocol used for the world wide web

JS - JavaScript - A widely used client-side scripting language.
JSP - Java Server Pages - Web pages with Java code embedded in them.
S
SEM - Search Engine Marketing - Includes a wide array of practices, like keyword research, search engine submission, and advertising.
SEM - Search Engine Marketer - A professional who practices search engine marketing.
SEO - Search Engine Optimization - The practice of enhancing a page to make it more “search engine friendly” for a chosen keyword phrase. Includes keyword optimization, HTML code correction, linking, etc.
SEO - Search Engine Optimizer - A professional who practices search engine optimization.
P
PHP - PHP Hypertext Preprocessor - An open source server-side scripting language commonly used on Apache servers.
PPC - Pay Per Click - Advertising model in which an advertiser only pays for a click through, and not for an ad impression.
PPI - Pay Per Impression - Advertising model where you pay per ad impression.
PPI - Pay Per Inclusion - Many search engines like Yahoo give you the option for paying for inclusion in the search engine index. Although it doesn’t guarantee good rankings, it does guarantee a quick indexing. PPI can also refer to paid-for web directories, where you pay for a spot on the directory.
PR - PageRank - The magical number that Google gives out to individual pages. Is part of Google’s search engine ranking algorithm.
R
ROI - Return On Investment - The end result of an investment, were you negative or positive? Generally written as a percentage.

WWW - World Wide Web - Does this need explanation?
X
XHTML - eXtensible HyperText Markup Language - The new version of HTML which is an extension of XML. Allows HTML to be parsed as XML.
XML - eXtensible Markup Language - A language used to describe data.
