Alright, so you have a blog, but you are getting bored of it. Should you start a new blog, or should you use the same one and just change its topic? Either way you will be essentially starting fresh.
I think that changing the topic of an existing blog is probably the best route to go, assuming your blog’s name is independent of its topic, e.g. nusuni.com could be used for pretty much everything. I will say that you should only change blog topics if you really can not think of anything else to write about, and that you should only do so if the topics are “kind of” related (SEO vs Internet, computer vs software tips.. etc). You should not change you blog’s topic if it will be completely different, like changing a recipe blog into a computer blog.
If you are 100% serious about slightly changing its topic, you will first want to give a warning to your visitors. As always, readers are the most important part of any blog. Do not be surprised if you see a sharp decrease in readership, some users will undoubtedly leave.
You do not want your change to be abrupt, so after you warn your users you should slowly start adding in articles for the new topic. Also, remember to leave the old posts intact. More content can’t hurt, can it?
The next logical step is to work on the description and keywords for your blog (both in the meta tags, and on other sites). This is really important for replacing the readers that may have left. Plus, it is kind of dumb to describe a blog as “computer tips and news” when it is actually about “cool new software.”
You might be worried about your search engine rankings, but I wouldn’t worry about it too much. Since your blog is preexisting, it shouldn’t be hard to get more backlinks. The only thing I would worry about it how long it takes the search engines to reindex your site.
