17 Ways To Get More Ideas

When I first started blogging I was constantly trying to figure out how professional bloggers got their ideas. A few months later, I figured out how.

  1. Use RSS!!! I am subscribed to roughly 50 RSS feeds, and that is nothing compared to some people (who are subscribed to over 400).
  2. Check Technorati for the latest trends and fads.
  3. When you get an idea, write it down! Good ideas come when you least expect it.
  4. If you run a news blog, PRWeb is your friend.
  5. Look at the keywords your visitors are using in search engines - write posts about what they are looking for.
  6. Look at the most popular posts on your blog.
  7. Create a post about general topics, then write posts about each individual topic.
  8. Expand on a previous post.
  9. Read your blog’s comments.
  10. Ask your readers to submit questions.
  11. Read comments about your blog on other blogs, if they say your blog is lacking something then write about it.
  12. Expand your blog’s niche - if your blog is too niched you may find it difficult (or impossible) to get ideas.
  13. Ask someone to be a guest poster - then add in your own commentary later.
  14. Go on a rant.
  15. If you have a collection of old, yet valuable and related posts then link to them and discuss them really quick. New readers may not know they exist.
  16. Check Digg and Reddit, expand on what other people are talking about.
  17. Write about how to get more ideas (I’m out of ideas)
