One thing that really makes me mad about some popular blogs is their lack of “timestamps.” I don’t know what they are thinking, but when most people read posts they like to know when it was written.
I don’t know if anyone else is the same way as me, but whenever I visit a blog that doesn’t display the date a post was written, I leave immediately. Sure, it is alright if you are running a pure content site that has timeless content, but most blogs are not like that.
Late last night I was visiting a somewhat popular blog that was running a contest, and the contest had no dates in the post nor did it have any timestamps. Now, I found this blog via Google, so I guessed the post is at least a week old.
I e-mailed the administrator only to get the response “that contest ended 10 weeks ago.” So I told them how they should post the dates of stuff, and got a rather rude response back. Well, that blogger is never going to get me as a reader, I can guarantee that.
So the moral of the story is please put dates on your posts. You may be chasing away readers.
Please subscribe, or else I will cry. Do you really want to make a programmer cry?
